I'll Have Whatever She's Having...

For some Cinderellas, the clock just never seems to strike Midnight. I don't know what part of Manhattan Susan Sarandon lives in, but it's obviously near the Fountain of Youth. She looks incredible! While other movie stars of her vintage (most notably Jessica Lange) have succumbed to some really startling plastic surgery to ease their transition through middle age, Susan Sarandon either has the most subtle plastic surgeon on the east coast, or she's got great genes. She had it all going on at the SAG Awards last night. Check out all the dresses -- good and bad -- on the red carpet at the award ceremony.

  • Are you still wondering what's going on in the White House with the new First Family? Yeah, me too. Since I'm an HGTV addict, I'm really intrigued by their choice of interior designer. Michael S. Smith is based in California and is known for mixing antiques with modern touches. But is he kid-friendly? And for your viewing pleasure, here's a Jackie Kennedy vs. Nancy Reagan smackdown over White House style. Still not over it yet? Then ask yourself what you would do if you were hired to give the White House a makeover.

Talkin' to myself and feelin' old

It's rainy and dreary here in Los Angeles. Which turns me into Karen Carpenter... without the eating disorder.Truth be told..It was my friend, Morgan Richter, who first started humming the lyrics to "Rainy Days and Mondays" this morning. So I know the only thing that can brighten a day like today is a cupcake.
  • While the rest of the world is waking up to the realization that they've either been pink-slipped, are about to be pink-slipped, or are living in fear of being pink-slipped every single day for the rest of their lives, Brangelina was nominated for Academy Awards and found a new crib on Long Island for their colors of Benetton family.
  • Have you ever had an IT guy come to save you from your computer that looked like Brad Pitt? Yeah, me neither.

Daily Hot Flash

I spent the morning in the doctor's office, so today's hot flash will have to be quicker than usual. That doesn't mean that it won't be just as much fun!

  • I've been wearing her clothes all of my life...I can't afford it, but I would rock one of her outfits in a jiffy...if someone else paid the bill. I think Lilly Pulitzer is just one cool chick.

  • Isn't this the premise of Devil Wears Prada? Someone is loving watching kharma coming back around to smack Anna in the backside. I loved the book because of all of the years I spent being someone's assistant. (Yes, I did it all...the kitchen sink and I wiped their butts!) But I have to admit that I think the screenplay is a better story...it's rare when that happens so I think it should be pointed out.

  • How fun would it be to have a signature scent created for yourself? You don't have to be one of the Olsen twins to make your dream come true.

  • Oh, look! It's House Hunters International in the New York Times. How many BEAD-rooms does it have?

Morning Hot Flash August 21, 2008

  • Sheryl Crow throws a Tupperware party. Grab your Chex mix and come on down!

  • Sharon Stone's date is half her age. Same goes for Bruce Willis, Donald Trump, Michael Douglas, Hugh Hefner, Phil Collins...should I go on?

  • Jodie Foster finds out that being a lesbian won't opt her out of the standard midlife crisis...and her ex may get $25 million. Makes a girl think!

  • Want to make your dreams come true by starting your own company? I can smell your passion from here.

  • I count The Devil Wears Prada in the top five of my favorite Chick Lit books. And I loved the movie. I actually own it on DVD. I went to see author Lauren Weisberger speak at the LA Festival of Books a couple years ago. She seemed a little more concerned about how she looked than what she was going to say -- but I cut the girl some slack because she was a survivor of the fashion industry. But since that time, I've attempted to read her two follow-up novels. I can't remember the name of either. They were dreck, and I failed miserably. Which is a big deal for me, because like Mikey and Life Cereal, I'll read almost anything. No wonder she's hoping someone else comes up with an idea for her next book.

Extra Tit-Bits

  • The fact that the economy is in the toidy is bringing us a new look on fashion runways this season. It's Neo-Depression era chic! Hello! Can you say Charleston lessons?

  • Why is it that when powerful women write books for how to tap into your power the books are always geared to young women? I need a book about harnassing my middle-aged girl power. Can someone get Wonder Woman on the phone? Anyone? Bueller?

  • I'm a time-waster...I'm a time-waster...(Sing-along to the melody of girl watcher, please.)

  • Turns out my dream house is located in Stillwater, Minnesota. And it's got the dreamy Sam Shepard already living in it! Oh-so incredibly convenient.
