Charlie Chan Couldn't Find Me

That's because I've been hiding out on the north shore of O'ahu for a few days. It was heavenly. And while I've returned in body -- I'm still there in spirit. How could I ever leave? I've dreamed for so long about going to Hawai'i -- I must say that the island and its people exceeded my expectations in every way.

This happy photo was taken by the Handsomest Man Alive during an afternoon visit to the House Without A Key in the swanky Halekulani Hotel. One of many precious memories. Yes, that's the Diamondhead volcano in the background. The old guy in the striped bathing trunks I know nothing about.

Chew Me Up Buttercup, Baby!

Meet Millie the turtle. She's out in the backyard enjoying the first blooms of spring as only a little turtle girl could. She reminds me very much of what I must've looked like devouring a plate of angel hair pasta Pomodoro last night. Go, girl!

No Tickling During Naptime

I've been kind of busy lately. I've been trying to catch up at work -- and only seem to be more behind. And at home there doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day to pick up and clean up. I've been trying to get organized -- but that ends up looking like making piles. I have piles of things I need to tend to spread out all over. Piles and piles. It's frustrating. So I surf the 'net to avoid dealing with the piles.

People seem to be very upset over the whole cougar thing. Not the predatory wild animals -- the predatory wild women. Everyone has an opinion and a judgement to issue. I say -- go for it, sistah! It's not the way I like to party, but I wouldn't want to slow down anyone who did enjoy the company of much younger men.  The most recent ploy to prevent older women from being seduced by young handsome men is to tell them if they do, they will die young. And I would like to add...they'll die with smiles on their faces -- so what?

And in no particular order, I thought this People magazine article was interesting (but contained a bit too much personal information) and this New York Times wedding story was fun -- The writer added the favorite coffee drink of each invited guest after their name. The writing seemed to match the whimsy of the wedding.

[Eds. Note] A couple of late additions. An article about all the fabulous clothes that no one could ever afford that the girls of SATC will be wearing in the new movie. And I'm a horrible person, because I couldn't stop laughing after watching this video.

Ain't No Mountain High Enough

Move over Susan Boyle, there's a sassy new Scottish singing sensation on the block. Bring it on, Janey!

Missing Stormy Weather

"Sometimes you have to wait 50 years … sometimes it comes in a year," Lena Horne said about success as she accepted a special Tony Award in 1981. "I'm just so happy I'm getting all these flowers before I lose my teeth."

She will be missed. Lena died over the weekend at the age of 92. What a wonderful world I live in when I'm sharing it with people like her.

Too Much Time On My Hands

When I watch videos like this, I think two things. Number one: Gee! Those kittens are really seriously cute. Number two: I have a serious time management problem because other people have time to take videos of cute little kittens and edit them together with choreographed music to create CuteFest 2010. And then they upload it to YouTube where the video goes SuperViral and get 10,000,000 hits. Seriously. What am I doing with my life?

A Sweet Lullaby For Film Freaks

Last night after I got tucked into my jammies, I turned on the television and found myself disappointed. One channel was talking about the arrest of a Pakistani-American who'd attempted to blow tourists to "Kingdom Come" in Times Square. On another news channel the focus was on a woman who had stabbed random strangers at a local Target. It just happened to be the Target store that I called my own for years. And on the third station there was a gathering of law enforcement dudes with guns and other types of weaponry who were attempting to get a wayward bear out of a tree. While it's true that I've lived alone most of my adult life, I am still scared of the dark and prone to having nightmares after watching scary programs before bedtime. So I started looking for a little bedtime television. A little video lullaby was what I needed -- and I found it on TCM. There she was -- Judy Garland -- on her way across the country as a mail order bride in "The Harvey Girls." And the next thing I know, the entire cast starts singing "Atchinson, Topeka and the Santa Fe." How can you not love it? Ray Bolger does his solo, and then the music gets slow and pretty, and Judy starts to sing...sure it's beautiful, but now I don't want to sleep...I want to stay up and watch it through to the end.  Ah well, it's worth the dark shadows under the eyes on Tuesday. I dare you not to start calling it "Calla-forn-eye-aye!' Seriously.
